The Pits
Most of the wolves chosen to go into the fighting rings are males. Occasionally some females who are worth betting against are sent in. Refusing to fight is not an option and if it occurs the wolf is punished by their handler or owner. These wolves are sent into a ring with another lykos and the two are forces to fight until one is dead. The other lykos’s prize is getting to live towards the next fight. When two favorites are fighting against one another, sometimes a fight is called off before the fatal blow can be landed. Sometimes the stress of this can cause the lykos to go mad and eventually break so they eat, breed, and fight without question.
Female wolves are used for breeding us if they are not able to fight, a mother never allowed to keep their pup because they are transported into another section of the cages to be raised into fighting machines. Females don't have the option of whether they want to breed or not and are typically punished if they refuse and end up being used anyways. The best male and the best female are typically paired in order to breed a prized pup.
All of the wolves are there until they are unable to continue being of use and are put down.
The Pits are a secret underground fighting ring run entirely by vampires. Typically most vampires can be malicious, but these vampires, in particular, are exceedingly malicious. Instead of using regular dogs, however, these vampires find it much more entertaining to use weres. Specifically, the weres who can change into wolves. It's the largest gambling organization in the South and typically stays within the one area. People of all species travel far and wide though, to take a look into the betting and workings of this organization.
The were are typically captured or hunted down by groups of vampires. Sometimes they catch a few stray wolves wandering around and sometimes they hunt for them in their packs. Occasionally you get the crazies who sell other lykos in order to line their pockets. Once captured these wolves are taken underground and caged until there is a use found for them. Males are separated from females and any pups are separated away from their mothers until they are old enough to be of use.
