Priores

The Priores think of themselves as Natives, while the Corrumpere think of them as Savages, ripe for the plunder.  Their respect for the land that provides for them places them at odds with the newcomers, invaders who take without thanks from the earth.

This loose collection of allies are primarily made up of Dryadalis, Arians and Shifters.  They fight to protect their lands with magic, ancient knowledge and species.  Some blend into Silver town as spies, while some are slaves to the Vrykolakas that rule the Invaders.  Others believe in the wonders of steam, and inventions that came with the Invaders, joining with the Oathkeepers to find balance between the two.

The Priores are loyal, with a divine connection with the earth and natural magics.  They work hard, respect the efforts of their fellow people and the land that provides for them.  All of these elements make them prime targets for the Corrumpere to exploit, even as they try and convince their invaders that peace and respect is the path to happiness.

Common Species:

Arians:

A perfect example of nature binding two creatures. Most, but not all, of these creatures are herbivores. These are only seen in the corner of your eye, rarely will they approach the new creatures, preferring the company of the Dryadalis and their other traditional cohabitants. They are capable of nature magic and elemental magic. Lifespan mimics the nature of the base creature.

  • Examples: Fauns, Centaurs, Pans, Elementals and Satires.

Shifters:

Resulting from a mutation occurring in most species, excluding Vrykolakas, shifters have the innate ability to shift into various creatures.  Those with the recessive gene are drawn to nature, and even those Corrumpere are likely to sympathize with the Priores or join the Peacekeepers.

Shifters are revered amongst the Priores and Elven Shifters are leaders of the Dryadalis.  Their natural affinity helps them to become renowned Shaman healers.  Their own form and the form of each animal does not receive any boosts to their skills above what the natural form is. Shifters have a catalog of creatures they may shift into, based on what they have encountered and touched in life, meaning those not interested in nature might accidentally turn into their pet dog, but not much else.

Dryadalis:

The world’s ancient inhabitants. These are creatures of yore, still well established throughout Argento. Dryadalis have managed to avoid most engagement with newcomers, focusing on reaching out to their more peaceful neighbors for support against the invasion and fortifying their strongholds. These species are not necessarily allies, but all are ancient creatures tasked with protecting the earth and preying on those who defy it. They are capable of Arcane magic and for the faithful, Divine magic.

  • Examples: Mortals (Humans native to Argento) Dwarves, Halflings, Elves, Half-Elves, Nymphs, Dryads, Mermaids, Sirens, and Faire
